Daniel DiFilippo

Daniel DiFilippo started off early in music within the Parma City School District, back when Arlington was an Elementary School! Starting with playing on recorders and singing as the Lion in The Wizard of Oz, he was found performing in numerous ensembles next in Greenbriar Jr High as well as Valley Forge High – all though as a vocalist. It took a nudge from the VF swim team’s pep band to jump start his instrumental side when they asked him to pick up a “flugabone” and just start playing. Fast forward Daniel then went on as a double major in Engineering from Case Western Reserve University and as a voice major from the Cleveland Institute of Music. While he ultimately decided not to pursue his formal major in Music, he was very active in the University Circle area with many ensembles to continue his music education. Starting with vocal music, Daniel was part of the Cleveland Orchestra Chorus, the University Circle Chorale, and a founding member of Kings of the Hill, an a capella quartet that placed 8th nationally in collegiate competition. As an amateur conductor and composer, he was elected as the first student director of the Case Men’s Glee Club and also wrote several pieces for voice and brass with his first brass choir piece performed by and dedicated to the CWRU Symphonic Winds. Out of this work is where he first began to experiment, play, and express his music on Horn.

Daniel has since continued to share his passion for Horn by performing with many ensembles and styles of brass music including Orchestra (Parma Symphony, Symphony West), Concert Band (Bay Village, Rocky River, Strongsville), and unique ensembles Corni Ones & Swinging Bavarians. He is President of Gabrieli’s Horns (Brass Choir), a founding member of the Buckeye Brass Quintet, and continues to compose and conduct, most recently as the Director for the GCM Band and Assistant Director of the NASA Band. He also continues to stay vocally connected to high quality music performance as part of many ensembles including the Blossom Festival Chorus, West Shore Chorale, BW Men’s Chorus, and multiple church ensembles throughout the Greater Cleveland area.

Daniel currently lives in Olmsted Falls, OH with his wife Meg and two children, Michael and Dominic.
