Barton Samuel Rotberg
Barton Samuel Rotberg enjoys a fulfilling career as a performer and instructor of violin and chamber music. Clevelandclassical.com described his performance stating, “The violinist’s timbre in the first movement was simply stunning”, and “Rotberg’s full violin sound lent charm and beauty.” Dr. Rotberg has been a featured soloist with numerous orchestras including the Erie Chamber Orchestra, Pittsburgh Philharmonic, Amherst (NY) Chamber Orchestra, and Warren (OH) Philharmonic in concerti of Mozart, Beethoven, Tchaikovsky, Mendelssohn, and other repertoire staples. Rotberg currently serves as concertmaster of the Ashland Symphony Orchestra of Ohio, and has been a member of the Illinois Philharmonic, Ann Arbor Symphony, and Flint Symphony orchestras. He also served as concertmaster of the Southwest Symphony Orchestra in Illinois for three seasons. As violinist of the Davanti Trio, an endowed ensemble under the auspices of the Flint Symphony Orchestra, he became a prizewinner in the Chamber Music Foundation of New England Ensembles Competition. The trio gave performances in the U.S., Canada and France. Rotberg’s chamber music performances have been heard on WQLN FM Erie radio and WCLV FM Cleveland.
Currently an instructor of violin at Baldwin Wallace University Conservatory of Music, Rotberg is also a faculty member at BW’s Community Arts School and Conservatory Summer Institute and Oberlin College Community Music School. He has given guest masterclasses and performances at venues such as Interlochen Arts Academy, Longy School of Music, University of New Mexcico and University of Windsor. Prior to teaching at BW, he served for four years as Assistant Professor of Music at Mercyhurst University, D’Angelo Department of Music where he was coordinator of the string program. He has been an adjudicator for the Tuesday Musical Competition in Akron, Music Teacher’s National Association Competition, and the Lakeland Civic Orchestra Concerto Competition.
Rotberg’s teachers have included Marc Zinger, Dmitri Berlinsky, Shirley Givens and Berl Senofsky.
