Shelly A. Jansen

Shelly has been a member of The Parma Symphony Orchestra since 1998. She received her Bachelor of Music Degree in Music Education from Bowling Green State University and her Master of Music Education Degree from the University of Akron. While at Bowling Green, Shelly studied violin with Vasile Beluska, a former participant in the Jascha Heifetz Master Class Series. She began her private violin study with instructor Jeanette Drinkall Meyer, former concertmistress of The Parma Symphony Orchestra and former student of Joseph Gingold, a past concertmaster of The Cleveland Orchestra while under the direction of George Szell. While attending the University of Akron, Shelly also studied the cello.

Shelly is currently in her twenty-fifth year of teaching, with the past twenty-four years having been with Medina City Schools. She teaches sixth, seventh and eighth grade orchestra at A.I. Root Middle School as well as the Sinfonietta, String Orchestra and Chamber Orchestra at Medina High School. During her tenure with Medina City Schools, she has had the pleasure of teaching strings in grades four through twelve and in all buildings throughout the district except for three of them. Shelly served seventeen years as Adjunct Faculty for Baldwin-Wallace College. In addition to her teaching duties in Medina, she was an Assistant Conductor with the Baldwin-Wallace University Conservatory of Music Junior and Senior Youth Orchestra Programs working side by side with conductor Rand Laycock.
